Name: Ineroth aka. Thorn Door: Door PassCanon: Original Character Canon Point: Shortly after witches helped balance the parts of his essence Age: Unknown (immortal - alive since the creation of Hell) / physically appears mid-20s Appearance: LINKHistory: Ineroth didn't exist, then simply one day he did exist. Along with his six brothers and sisters, all demon princes representing a different deadly sin. From then on, time and reality were a bit of a haze for the demon prince. Given his own domain of hell to rule over, the demon was more or less a representation of a feeling that could never be satisfied. Things that matter to humans didn't matter to Ineroth. All he knew was unending craving, and the souls within his own realm were barely enough to satisfy that taste.
So, with time, Ineroth began to expand his reach beyond Hell. Reaching out to the realm of mortals, Ineroth found people of unique talents, skills, even magic. And he craved the essence that fed these creatures more than anything. Slowly, Ineroth began to steal the souls of these people. The process would sometimes be instant, or sometimes the soul would need worn down. Broken. And thus, Ineroth began to trap living souls within his domain, creating endless realities to trap and torture these souls until he could consume them whole.
What Ineroth didn't realize, however, was that consuming souls in their rawest form would have an effect on the being. Absorbing that much human essence and magic had begun to change the demon. Ineroth felt this itch, readily identifying it as 'humanity' growing within him.
Disgusted by the effect that human consumption had on his being as a demonic prince, Ineroth sectioned off the piece of himself that was growing humanity and trapped it in its own bubble dimension within Ineroth's realm.
Thus, Thorn was born.
Ineroth and Thorn would have no idea how long Thorn was sectioned off, it didn't matter. Thorn was little more than an inkling of humanity that need never know reality. That was until Nathaniel Hawthorne. A powerful magician, Ineroth had hijacked a spell Nate had performed to track a disturbance in the magical community. Instead, Ineroth reversed the spell into a backwards summoning spell and dragged Nate into Hell. There Ineroth tried to torture Nate into submission, but when that failed Nate was sequestered into his own bubble dimension until his soul was weary enough to take. Unfortunately for Ineroth, Nate realized the ploy too soon and used his magic to jump from one dimension cell to another within Ineroth's realm. Ineroth could keep the boy from escaping Hell, but not from traversing his own realm.
In his travels, Nate found Thorn. A ghost of a man, crouched in a dimension that was unlike others. Thorn seemed another lost soul, on the verge of being swallowed by Ineroth. He didn't even know his name until Nate helped him find what he assumed was his name. From there, Thorn vowed to help Nate escape Hell, not knowing the truth about his own existence.
Nate and Thorn spent an unknown amount of time traveling different bubble dimensions in an attempt to find some escape. Together, they helped save souls where they could. They also lost souls together. Nate helped Thorn experience some semblance of reality outside of hell through the simulacrum dimension cells. Slowly, Thorn started to piece together who he was. Or at least, who he felt he was. He knew his memories still wouldn't quite return, but vowed to not let that distract him from their shared mission.
Eventually, a witch friend of Nate's, Anna, found a way to reach out to Nate in Hell with the help of Nate's sister, Doe. The witches worked hard to pull Nate through, and Nate managed to secure Thorn to bring him with him back to Earth. However, upon leaving Hell, Ineroth could sense Thorn clearly. Attempting not to lose a piece of his power and a piece of himself, Ineroth pulled Thorn back to him. Unlike Nate's soul, Thorn was always a part of Ineroth. There was no ability to resist as Ineroth rejoined with the piece of himself he'd separated long ago.
The rejoining of the two essences proved difficult for Ineroth, however. Thorn had developed into his own sense of self, and combining the two was not so easy. Once an infinite being spanning time and dimensions, Ineroth now found a piece of himself made finite and human. Ineroth gained a more human form, taking the form of Thorn now, and with it came Thorn's memories and personality.
The pair warred internally, both struggling to find a way to coexist as one but unable to separate. Ineroth took majority control, using Thorn's looks and memories as a way to manipulate Nate. However, Ineroth's true desires always revealed themselves in the end, making it hard for Nate to trust that Thorn even still existed in any sense. Unable to let go of Thorn, Nate worked with Anna to try to find the soul of Thorn that had been consumed. Nate discovered that there was no separation between the two, and that Thorn and Ineroth were always the same person in the end. Being an empath, Anna was able to sense that Ineroth had not overpowered Thorn as a whole.
Together, Nate and Anna worked on a spell to pull the pieces of Ineroth into more equilibrium, giving Thorn better control of the body and allowing him to suppress Ineroth. Since the spell, Nate and Thorn have been reunited, though Thorn remains a prince of Hell. Thorn struggles, still, with the fact that there is darkness and evil inside himself. He has since been trying to resolve these pieces into a whole of himself, but knows that he has a long way to go before he can come to terms with all aspects of who he is now. Personality: + EMPATHIC: As a demon, Ineroth has always had an ability to get a sense of the people around him. While some of that is magical, it's also intuition he's built over millenia of souls passing through Hell and his own consumption of some of those souls. Where once Ineroth used this skill dangerously, Thorn has developed it further beyond seeing just the worst in others. Thorn is able to not only read how others around them feel, but also connect with people on a deeper level. He can sense the way that others feel, and access his own feelings to relate to them. Thorn does his best to use this to help people, as he can often understand the struggles they experience. It can also be draining on him, however, as he has a hard time shutting others out.
- INSATIABLE: Ineroth represented gluttony, and Thorn is unable to escape the very core of what is now his being as well. Thorn lives up to the demon's nickname 'Ever Empty', in that Thorn finds it hard to be satisfied. This can be physically, but also sexually and emotionally he feels like an endless pit. He's always seeking more in all ways, and he knows he can take this far past the limits of others. Thorn has to fight both the physical feelings of being insatiable and the emotional drain that can be. He often has to take stock of his wants and needs and align them with what's real and what's a hunger that seems to be insatiable. He's not always able to do so, unfortunately, and often this can lead to other negative traits within the man.
- SHORT-TEMPER: Thorn can be easily frustrated. A lot of this is left over from Ineroth, though some of it comes from his own failings. Feeling insatiable, Thorn can often get lost in the frustration of that emotion. Thus, when other aspects of his life strain, Thorn can get short-tempered. Snappy. Passive Aggressive. Even outright aggressive. He works constantly to keep these emotions in check, but the worst of him always fights to rise to the top. And anger is much easier than dealing with one's own shortcomings.
- UNSETTLED: When Thorn and Ineroth were combined, the pair were two different to fully reconcile as a whole person. While Anna helped Thorn balance magically, emotionally Thorn has a long way to work on himself. He still views himself as two people, and sometimes a weird third mixture of the two. It's the easiest way his mind can comprehend it. But he's aware that this way of thinking also prevents him from feeling like a whole person at the same time. Thorn is still in the midst of trying to come to terms with all of this emotionally, and it makes it harder for him to feel really know who he is. Powers and Abilities: DEMON/HUMAN HYBRID: As a demon bound in a human form, Thorn tends to be at the peak condition for a human. His strength, speed, and agility are all that of a human at peak condition and training. As are his senses. None are naturally supernatural while in human form, though can be augmented with magic as needed. Thorn is immune to human diseases, however, and is immortal. He can be hurt in any way, he will simply always recover from any injury. His immortality, however, will be nerfed for the game in that he can be temporarily killed by game events/duplicity effects as any other character can.
ENERGY CONSUMPTION: Ineroth's natural ability shines through in Thorn, making Thorn capable of siphoning the life force off others. This allows Thorn to feel more energetic and enhance his already natural skills. Though while in his human form, Thorn can only siphon energy through physical touch. Though he can sense energy over further distances. Siphoning tends to physically drain the other person, and can lead to their death if Thorn takes too much. This ability will only be used with player permission and I will create a permission post for it.
SHADOW MANIPULATION: As a being of mostly smoke and shadows, Thorn inherited Ineroth's ability to manipulate the shadows. He is able to create, summon, or manipulate already existing shadows. He can create darkness or make physical inanimate objects from shadows (handheld).
HELL MAGIC: As a demon prince, Thorn has access to magic from his hellish nature. Ineroth and Thorn haven't learned a lot of magic personally, relying on their natural skills most of the time. Thorn has learned, however, how to teleport from Nate Hawthorne. As such, he is capable of learning how to better utilize his magic by learning more spells from others with magical knowledge. Though, as hell magic, there's always the potential for things to get twisted. Inventory: 1. His crown from hell 2.
